Earlier this month, Fabian Bellaard from project partner Erasmus University Rotterdam presented ongoing FOODMISSION research at the ECREA conference in Brno. His presentation explored how game design strategies could encourage more sustainable food practices. We thank the organisers for hosting the event and everyone who attended the session for their questions and discussion.
The research is part of the FOODMISSION project, which focuses on empowering citizens through gamification-supported approaches to transform food consumption patterns toward healthier and more sustainable choices. While previous studies on food-related games have primarily centered on nutrition literacy or dietary changes, our work addresses a critical gap by exploring how game mechanics and aesthetics can be utilized to promote sustainable food habits. The central question driving our study is: How are game mechanics and aesthetics used in digital games to encourage sustainable food practices?
Currently, the research is in the analysis phase, and we are excited about the progress being made. We look forward to sharing more findings soon as we continue to uncover innovative ways to use digital games as tools for fostering sustainable behaviors. Stay tuned for updates!
